Growing up, her family moved to England for 3 years in the early 1960s, before settling in Falls Church, VA. Betty graduated from Virginia Tech in 1973 with a degree in Human Nutrition and Foods. At graduation she was sworn into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant, completed a Dietetic Internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, earned her MS in Nutrition at University of Maryland, and became a Registered Dietitian stationed at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, NC.
She met and married the love of her life, Lieutenant David L. Emison, USAF, a C-130 pilot, in 1976. They had two children, Eileen and David, who will always be their proudest accomplishments.
Husband David spent his second career with Pfizer, Inc. and they raised their children in Redding, Connecticut where Betty continued her career as a Registered Dietitian consulting in several nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Betty also rejoined the military assigned to Navy Sub Base Groton retiring as a Commander, US Navy Reserve.
In 2006 Betty and Dave semi-retired to Florida with Betty working at Manatee Memorial Hospital and later spent 10 years as a renal dietitian in dialysis centers.
In addition to her spouse, she leaves children and grandchildren: —Eileen (spouse Aaron Booth) Colette and Declan; David (spouse Ashley) West, Laine, and Hayden. She also leaves a brother Robert (wife Jan), a deceased brother William (wife Cheryl) and four nieces and a nephew.
Grandma Betty loved trying new recipes in the kitchen as well as making family favorites. Warm fragrances of freshly baked baguettes, homemade fudge, and Christmas stolen often greeted guests in Betty’s kitchen. Her love for culinary arts lives on in her grandchildren.
