Eleanor Deloris (aka “Cleo”) Cowley, age 90, died peacefully on June 20, 2019. Cleo was born on March 28, 1929 in Laurenburg, NC but spent most of her childhood in Shrewsbury, MA. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 – 1954. She subsequently obtained a PhD in Psychology and worked as a Social Worker in Miami, FL, where she met Jonnie Farris, her partner of many years. Cleo and Jonnie moved to Franklin, NC, where they ran Mi Mountain campground for many years, and then retired to Rotunda West, FL. After several years, Jonnie succumbed to heart disease. Cleo was fortunate to meet Doris Barcomb, with whom she enjoyed many years together in Port Charlotte, FL. Doris suffered a stroke and died on January 8, 2019. Cleo enjoyed cards, casinos, and cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Lucille Dollar Cowley and Benjamin Cornelius Cowley, and by her brother, Benjamin Dollar Cowley. She is survived by her niece, Stacey D. Cowley, and by her nephew, Benjamin D. Cowley, Jr, his wife, Nicole R. Cossaart, and their children, Olivia N. Cowley and Benjamin D. Cowley, III. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
