Dorothy (Dottie) Jewel Caudle Cox passed away at home in North Fort Myers, Florida on January 23, 2024. She was 87 years old. Dottie was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to parents Thomas Hume Caudle and Margaret Christine Crosby Caudle, the youngest of three children. Two siblings preceded her in death: brother Charles Richard Caudle and sister Billie June Caudle Cocklereece Wright. Also preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years.
She moved as a young girl with her family to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1940.
Dottie met the love of her life at the age of fifteen at the skating rink, Clarence Bryan Cox, Jr. Two years later (1954) they married. They had two daughters: Christine Elette Cox Camacho (B. 1954) and Debra Lynne Cox Jarrell (B. 1956). In 1957 they moved to South Florida, where they rented homes in North Miami and welcomed a son Duane Bryan Cox (B. 1959), and S.E. Hialeah before buying their own home in South Dade County on SW 54th Street in 1960 and welcomed a daughter Marjorie Anne Cox Blalock (B. 1966).
While living in South Florida Dottie worked for several companies: Sportsman Paradise as Receptionist, Modern Plastics as Secretary and Admin Assistant at Universal Restaurants. She found her niche in the Marketing Department of Burger King Corporation, Headquarters.
In 1981 Dottie moved to Grayson Georgia and went to work for General Times as an Admin Assistant to the Director of Marketing. In 1994 she moved to Ball Ground Georgia and took a job with Evenflo Corporation where she worked in the Marketing Department, Feeding Division and was responsible for creating, scheduling, and coordinating photo shoots in Chicago, Illinois for the publication of the product catalog. Evenflo relocated their headquarters in 1998 to Ohio where she and Dad bought a house in Miamisburg, Ohio. She retired in 2002 and moved to Melbourne, Florida to be closer to family and finally moved to North Fort Myers in 2018.
Dottie loved being a grandmother to seven and a great grandmother to seventeen and another due in June. The highlight of her days was spending time with them and took every opportunity to do so. She loved watching them grow up and was immensely proud of each of them.
Over the years Dottie’s hobbies shifted focus, from sewing clothes for her children, ceramics, learning a new method of sewing called “Stretch and Sew;” teaching classes when she became more knowledgeable. She became a quilter later in life after retirement and met lifelong friends who shared the same passion.
Dottie loved Florida and her favorite saying was “another day in paradise.” She enjoyed watching the sun come up on the beach listening to the waves crash along the shore and was always delighted to see the dolphins play in the surf. She was an avid birdwatcher and took the time to research any new species that came to the feeder. She was not fond of the squirls that came to rob the bird feeder! She had a clothes and shoe fetish and like to have the colors in her outfits match perfectly, including the shoes.
Dottie was raised as a Southern Baptist and remained active in her faith. She attended and taught Sunday School at Wayside Baptist in Pinecrest Florida while she lived in South Florida. She attended Faith Fellowship Church while living in Melbourne and adored Pastor Jeff Hoy.
Until she lost her ability to speak, Dottie would express how grateful she was to have lived a long full life of wonderful experiences as well as a loving family and many good friends.
