Don was my neighbor in Westfield, IN and over the years became a dear friend.  My partner, Eric and I spent many of hours with Don and Jim as they shared their delightful life stories. I gained much wisdom and knowledge from Don Martin and I stand as a better person for having known this remarkable man. May he rest in peace!

I had the privilege to be one of Mr. Martin's students for two school years - 1969-70 and 1970-71. Being a member of Counterpoints, was the highlight of my high school days.  I have and always will look back on it as one of the greatest learning experiences of my life - thanks to Mr. Martin. Someone else mentioned the twinkle in his eye; it was so bright and cheery.  I believe that twinkle was love - love for life, music, students, and friends. Mr. Martin,  I hope you're playing piano in heaven to entertain all the other angels - lucky angels.

Don  has been one of my closest friends for the past forty years.  He use to allow me to watch and listen to him practice the organ at his church on Thursday evenings, and until then I had never heard or seen such talent and passion for this instrument.  He could improvise and turn songs into the most beautiful medlies I have ever heard.
One evening, while in his home, as I was admiring his collection of fine antiques, he explained to me, it's only stuff, and we only tend to it for a little while, which helped me understand that he was not a materialist person, but instead treasured his friends and family more than anything else.  He had the most wonderful sense of humor, and had a twinkle in his eyes that could help spread the love that he felt.  He was a wonderful listener, didn't judge you, but instead was able to recognize your positive attributes, and help you to feel good about yourself.  I will miss Don every day, for the remainder of my life, and though this void feels sad, I feel rich with memories, and for having known him, and I find great comfort to know he is no longer in any pain, and that we will one day be together in heaven.  Don helped me know how to be a better person, and a better friend.  Don was the true meaning of a gentle-man, and a wonderful friend.

I appreciated the love and dedication that Mr Martin put into his work with all of his young people as he directed us in our various musical choral groups. He was quite a teacher and visionary and had a cute sense of humor as well.Rest now, Don. You made a great impact on our young lives.PAM Woodruff, Class of 1970

His ability to shape young adults' and adults' talents into a magnificent sound was a true gift to all his students and choir members. His love of music filled our lives.

Mr. Martin was the choral music director at Shortridge High School in the 1950s when I was a member of the Madrigal Singers. Through his guidance that was the best group I've ever sung with.

Don was one of the most loving people who'll walk this earth. I had the pleasure of sharing many family holiday gatherings with him. I loved hearing his stories about his music career, among other stories he would tell me about his life in Florida with Jim, an I to would share my stories. He and I both shared something in common. We were both in-laws to a loving family, the Aldous. It pains me to know that I won't be able to share a laugh with Don, but he will forever be in our hearts. I'll miss you, my dear friend.

Don was a dear friend and positive mentor for me at a time when I needed both . He will be missed by a great many former students and music lovers .
