David Svensen, 89, of Rockford, Illinois area, went to be with his Lord and Savior May 6, 2026. He passed away peacefully with his devoted wife, Nancy, by his side. Born and raised in Illinois, David lived a life shaped by family, faith, and the satisfaction of working with his hands.
David is survived by his beloved wife Nancy Svensen, the love of his life. He is also survived by his children from his first marriage to the late Joyce Svensen: Amy (Randy) Benesh, Penny (Steve) Gutzmer, and Barry (Donna) Svensen. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who affectionally nicknamed him “Grandpa Tiger” for his playful spirit.
David is also survived by his brother Ken (Delores) Svensen, and is reunited in heaven with his brothers Norman and Robert Svensen.
A man of many talents, David built a successful career as the founder of Nordic Drywall Construction Company, providing a strong foundation for his family’s future. Outside of work, he poured his heart into the things he loved: cars, travel, music, and time spent with family and friends. Over the years he owned several classic cars, including a Ford Coupe and a Thunderbird, and he never lost his passion for tinkering in his workshop or garage.
In his youth, David spent countless hours on family farms, haying, milking, and gathering with a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He enjoyed helping his brother Kenny and their mother with the greenhouses, and he kept a lifelong love of flowers and immaculate yards.
Music was woven throughout his life. He sang in the church choir, performed with the Lamplighters singing group in Oswego, and brought joy to many with his warm voice.
David enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling, and embracing the sunshine and relaxation of Punta Gorda, Florida with Nancy, where the couple moved to enjoy golf, warm weather, and a well-earned good life. He and Nancy loved to share a good meal and laugh - often and easily - in the simple joy of each other’s company. His loyal dog Duffy will miss him dearly.
David was known for his kindness, generosity, and big heart. He gave unforgettable hugs, loved fiercely, and lived fully.
He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:30pm, June 28th 2026 at the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church located at 11330 Burnt Store Rd., Punta Gorda, FL 33955.
