David Laverne Smith

David L. Smith passed away peacefully on June 24, 2019 at his home in Brooklyn, Indiana at the age of 80. He had a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. David was born in Indianapolis in 1939. He went to Ben Davis High School where he lettered in football. David furthered his education at night to get his degree in Architectural Engineering. He was a truck driver for many companies and retired from Teamsters Local 135 as their Vice President. David also was a Mediation Arbitrator for Central States in 1993. David is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, his Karen. He is survived by 3 children, Richard Smith and family, Michelle (Kennedy) Smith and family, Stepson Charles Douglas Long and family, deceased son D.V., 10 Grandchildren, and 9 Great grandchildren. He loved his boats and fishing at Lake Okeechobee with his friends and family. We will never forget his smiling blue eyes as he played poker and puffed his cigars.
