Charles Hastings Wheeler, 74, passed away in Naples, FL on December 20, 2016, with his family at his bedside. Chuck, also called Charley, was born March 6, 1942, in Boston, MA to Rita Wheeler of Cambridge, MA and Charles J. Wheeler of Kalamazoo, MI. Following graduation from Resurrection High School in Lansing, MI in 1960, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees at U.S. Naval bases in Rota, Spain and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He remained a lifelong patriot and was a devoted fan of the Michigan State University Spartans. In 1995, Chuck retired after 33 years with General Motors Corp. UAW local 652 in Lansing, MI. A friend of Bill W.’s since 1973, Chuck was a friend, counselor and sponsor to countless men and women seeking sobriety in Lansing, MI and Naples, FL where he relocated after retiring. A man of faith, Chuck’s primary focus was always service to others. His endless curiosity about everything, along with an infectious sense of humor, endeared him to those fortunate to know him. He was predeceased by his parents and infant siblings Richard and Helen. He is survived by siblings Robert J. (Sallee) Wheeler, Naples, FL, Donald J. (Joanne) Wheeler, Alexandria, VA, John A. Wheeler, East Lansing, MI and Katherine King, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. He is also survived by nieces Nicole Wheeler, Troy, MI and Michelle Wheeler, Richmond, MI and many extended family and close friends. Chuck was deeply grateful to Florida Cancer Services Dr. Andy Lipman and his entire team in the Naples office for their caring guidance through his final illness. There will be a funeral service in February at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Naples, FL, and a subsequent service at St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing, MI, followed by interment in Mt.
