Cathie was a woman who never followed the expected path; she followed her heart and lived life in a way that was uniquely her own. A free spirit with an independent soul, she was a self-made woman who worked hard throughout her life to be self-sufficient and self-reliant. She followed her own path with determination, courage, and an unmistakable sense of individuality.
Cathie had a deep passion for caring for others in need. She put herself through nursing school and as an RN found purpose in helping those who needed compassion, care, and a helping hand.
Animals were another great love throughout Cathie’s life. Her passion for animals knew no boundaries and extended to all creatures, from horses and dogs to the unique adventure of raising alpacas on her own alpaca farm. Her love for animals reflected the curiosity, compassion, and adventurous spirit that defined her.
Cathie was also immensely creative. From a young age, she taught herself to play the organ, embracing music as another way to express herself. She had a remarkable ability to create beautiful things with her own hands, including intricate stained-glass artwork. One of her most special creative pursuits was working with alpaca fiber—spinning the fiber herself into yarn and then knitting it into beautiful clothing. Her creativity was as unique and individual as she was.
Cathy is survived by her daughter Kerry Englund and her husband, Scott Englund, and their children, Alli Mahosky, Hunter Thorpe, Auberey Ramone and Ashley Englund Stuart; and her daughter Wendy Nyberg and her husband, Eric Nyberg, and their children, Brad Nyberg and Emma Nyberg. She is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren.
Cathie was survived by her siblings, Bruce Christofi, Mary Christofi Peer, William Christofi, Bonnie Bloomfield and Paula Asaff. She is preceded in death by her parents Francis and Margaret Christofi and sister, Marsha Ames.
Cathie’s life was never ordinary and will be remembered for her independent spirit. She followed her heart, worked hard, created beauty, loved animals deeply, and lived life in her own remarkable way. May she always be remembered for the life she chose to live—independent, creative, compassionate, and entirely on her own terms.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Cathie’s memory to Best Friends Animal Society, an organization dedicated to helping animals in need. Donations can be made to [email protected].
