Tony is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine A. Benedetti; his son Anthony J. Benedetti and his partner Georgia Critsley of Arlington, MA; and his son Paul J. Benedetti of Fort Myers, FL.
Born in Roslindale on July 19, 1934, Tony was the son of Chiara and Giovanni Benedetti. He is survived by his brothers John and Louie. He was predeceased by his brothers Rocco and Albert and his sisters Angie, Mary, Ann, Viola, and Nancy. He is also survived by loving in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
A veteran of the Army and National Guard, Tony spent much of his professional career working at Roche Bros Supermarket before concluding his working years at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission. Upon retiring 22 years ago, he and Josie moved to Florida, where they embraced the warm weather and a more relaxed lifestyle. Tony particularly enjoyed dining out and playing golf, a pastime that brought him great joy throughout his retirement.
A natural social organizer throughout his life, Tony took pleasure in bringing people together. He created and oversaw a bowling league at Centre Street Bowling, coordinated bus trips to Rhode Island to golf and gamble and served as a social director in the Jamaica Bay community in Florida. His favorite buddy and object of much pampering was his dog Tinka.
Tony’s life was marked by resilience and adventure. After undergoing heart surgery in his 40's, he went on to live a long and fulfilling life. One of the highlights of his later years was traveling to Ceprano, Italy, to visit the birthplace of his parents and to meet extended family.
Anthony will be remembered for his warm smile, his dedication to family and his zest for life. A memorial surface will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Best Friends Animal Society at https://bestfriends.org
