She was lovingly cared for in her last 8 years by her grandson, Fred and eldest daughter, Dixie and before that by her youngest daughter Lois. Ruth grew up in Los Angeles and Placerville. She met the love of her life, Edward Martin, in Long beach in 1948 and married a year later. Ruth and Ed had 4 children. After living in Fortuna, and Riverside, California, she and Ed moved to Davis, California where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Ruth was an avid homemaker, an excellent cook and volunteered in many charities including those connected to the Lutheran Church and served on the board of the YWCA and TORCH, a charity for mental health services. She was active at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Davis, California, but also maintained a curiosity and interest in spirituality which went beyond the bounds of traditional religion.
She loved horses and very much enjoyed raising bunny rabbits. Her children remember fondly her singing around the house. She had a lovely, lilting soprano voice and especially loved to sing the song “Somewhere My Love”. She had a special way of making anyone in her company feel at ease.
She was also very creative in many mediums, including: painting, sculpting, creating paper dolls, woodworking and sewing. She loved making dresses for her girls. She was also a great cook. A fun fact is that she played a maid in college in the play, ”Heaven Can Wait.” We know that she is happy in Heaven right now.
She is survived by her four children, Dixie, Ludean, Lois and Frank, and her seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Martin, and her seven siblings and also her granddaughter, Jennifer Jackson. She was well loved and will be dearly missed, but we wish her well on her next adventure.
