Born on December 24th, 1946, Pearl was an adventurous, warm, kind and caring soul. Everyone who knew her, loved her. She had the voice of an Angel, one whose every word was perfectly enunciated. She traveled the world and the United States; I do not think there was a single state that she had not visited or lived in. She was well-traveled and had many adventures. I will never forget her telling me about meeting Redd Foxx in an elevator in a Vegas casino. She also was a big Elvis Presley fan.
She was fascinated by and truly loved California. She moved to California in the 80s with her then husband, Gary Little, who served in the Air Force. It was there that she began her career of nearly 44 years with the David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base. She started out working as an Administrative Assistant in the Internal Medicine Department under the supervision of Susan Hernandez, where she made many friends. She later was transferred to the Primary Care Department where she remained for the rest of her career. She excelled in her duties. During the late 90’s, Pearl worked for Dr. Donn Erickson, who was not only her boss, but became a superior friend to her. She spoke very highly of him often. It was Dr. Erickson who helped Pearl throughout the transition of her life due to changes from dementia. We are all thankful that Pearl had Dr. Erickson along with all of her other closest friends, wherever she lived, but namely during the largest part of her life, in California. She enjoyed going to the Casinos, out to eat and spending time with friends. To know Pearl was to truly love Pearl.
Pearl was proceeded in death by her Father, Wilbur T. Jones in 1968, her Mother, Dorothy Marie Durbin of Newcomerstown, OH in 1981 and her only child, son Robert Smith of California, Brothers Donnie, Dail and Chester all of Newcomerstown, OH.
She is survived by 2 nephews and 2 nieces, including her niece Jennifer L Jones of Wetumpka AL. She is also survived by her dearest friends and California family including Dr. Erickson, Rosina, Della, Sahver, Grant, Sharron, Donna in South Carolina, and I am sure numerous others whose names I do not know. Some of her best friends also included her pets. Spock, who was her little dog many years ago, Murray, her little dog in Vacaville and many different cats throughout her lifetime.
In keeping with Pearl’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no public services.
