Massis was born as one of four siblings on December 24, 1939 in Iran, Isfahan. He grew up in Ghazvin, Iran, with his three brothers. From early on, he was a go-getter; he was always at the top of his class from elementary school to college, playing accordion in his school band, and leading school activities.
Massis first arrived in the U.S. in 1964, where he proudly attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He worked extremely hard to fund his way through college, working full-time as a dishwasher, then quickly getting promoted to a chef. In 1966, he married his wife of 60 years, Hilda, his other half. Soon after, he would have his first son Michael in 1969, and his second son Allen in 1976.
Massis lived a life as big as his heart; a life brimming with love, laughter, hard work, and selflessness. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for over 30 years, eventually becoming a partner and Vice President of Glumac & Associates, where he was known for his work ethic and leadership. There was nothing Massis couldn’t do.
Beyond work, Massis found joy in gardening, wine, music, and spending time with his family. In his retirement, he obtained his wine degree at Napa Valley College, and enjoyed running his vending machine business, Hilda’s Snack and Beverage.
Those who knew him will remember and miss his humor, warmth, and ability to make everyone smile.
No matter his age, he felt he always had the youngest spirit in the room, often saying, “I am never going to get old.”
Massis is survived by his wife, Hilda, sons Michael and Allen and their spouses, and his grandchildren Mia, Alyssa, and Marcos, who will continue to honor his memory by embodying his generosity, kindness, and warm-heartedness.
To know Massis was to know pure love and goodness. He will be deeply missed, loved, and forever remembered.
