Joni Louise Bolland

She was born August 4, 1946, in Covina, CA, the daughter of Harl and Alice Zachary.

Joni attended Hogan High School in Vallejo, CA, and graduated in 1964. After high school, she started a successful home interior decorating business. She later earned a degree in criminal justice, and in the 1980s, served as a reserve police officer for Vallejo Police Department.

In the 1990s, she moved to Eastern Idaho and worked as a journalist as well as running Rocky Mountain Creations, a photography business that she began. Her photography appeared in newspapers and national magazines, and she wrote a children’s book called “The Monkey Did It.”

In 1998, Joni married Dale Bolland in Boise, Idaho, where they resided for many years before moving to Vallejo, CA to care for her ill mother. She and Dale were married for nearly 28 years.

Strong and steadfast in her Christian faith, Joni served as a deacon, board member, greeter and counselor for churches she attended in Idaho. In Vallejo, she attended Bridgeway Church and served as a life coach.

Joni loved photography, the outdoors, and creative writing. Other hobbies included home decorating and nurturing a wide variety of plants, mostly succulents. She was an influencer on X and passionate about politics, involved with the Republican party.

Those who knew Joni remember her compassionate heart, her radiant smile, and her listening ear. She made a positive impact on everyone she knew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harl and Alice Zachary. She is survived by her husband, Dale Bolland, her son, Kevin Yates, her daughter, Angela Kerr, three stepdaughters, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 3:00 P.M., at Bridgeway Church, 1505 Georgia Street, Vallejo, CA.
