No words can describe our loss of our loving Janis. She was one of the brightsouls in the family. Always compassionate, willing to help family or friends, had a great sense of humor, was a conversationist peculiarly about the environment and politics, and was truly a spiritual soul. Let’s not forget the great smile she always had when we were with her! She truly loved us all!
We will remember Janis for the amazing life she had and the things she accomplished throughout her life. She was a student protege in school especially art; she was an accomplished San Francisco architect, who also worked in South Africa both as an architect and project manager; remodel architect in New Mexico; and she was a spiritual person who wrote, read and participated in spiritual healing after suffering from a heart attack, lung cancer, and later breast cancer which she survived all. She was a fighter!
She traveled around the world when she left South Africa. In her late 40’s, she took on learning kung fu, qigong and tai chi and performed various martial arts forms including partner fighting forms, which the crowd loved, during Chinese New Years. She was the general manager of construction of Chinese Culture Center’s concrete pagoda which housed the Lin’s martial arts studio.
After leaving Albuquerque, she put her knowledge of building and home construction to good use by working for FEMA to evaluate damaged homes due to catastrophic loss. She later took up painting portraits, and landscapes. She had an amazing eye for colors and color combinations, which she carried through all her professional work and as an artist.
She was a hospice volunteer who consoled patients and families suffering from incurable diseases. She worked with children and families. She worked with a great family of hospice volunteers that will miss her positive attitude, help and smile.
Some of her favorite things to do were being with family and friends; being outdoors enjoying nature, traveling to new places, or going to an art museum; and last but not least sharing a great meal (especially Chinese food) whether she cooked it or cooked by others.
We (including Tiki) will miss you Janis, but you are at peace now with family, friends and your loving cats Colby and Peanut. You were there for them when they passed and now they are with you at this time of your passing. You will forever be in our hearts.
