Gerald “Gerry” Phillip Peterson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose life was grounded in faith, service, and a deep love for bringing people together. He passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2025. Guided by LaSallian values of scholarship, compassion, and community, Gerry believed his greatest fortune was family — and showed it through kindness, patience, and unwavering encouragement.
Responsibility took hold early. At just six years old, while his father served overseas in World War II and his mother worked to support their home, Gerry helped raise his two younger sisters. That early call to care for others shaped the rest of his life — dependable, selfless, and always ready to lend a hand.
Gerry was a Minnesotan through and through — a loyal Vikings fan no matter the record. He loved watching professional sports, especially ice hockey and football, cheering with the same enthusiasm he carried from his own skating and gridiron days. Those years on frozen lakes and fields instilled toughness, resilience, and determination.
A lifelong learner, Gerry earned his PhD in Education, reflecting his commitment to knowledge, leadership, and helping others reach their potential. A gifted storyteller, he inspired curiosity and offered wisdom, always leaving others feeling seen, valued, and supported. His faith guided his every step — he was a devoted Catholic and proud parishioner of St. James for 55 years.
Gerry served with the Davis Bike Club for decades, visiting schools to distribute and properly fit bicycle helmets for students in need. He also led rides and officiated races — encouraging safety, confidence, and the joy of cycling.
Gerry felt at peace in nature. He treasured watching eagles raise their eaglets, admired the strength and spirit of wolves, and summitted the high point of 48 states. Just as he found pleasure in the great outdoors, he delighted in seeing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren spread their wings in life.
His interests were vast. An avid cyclist, he pedaled from California to Minnesota to reunite with cherished classmates and friends — a testament to his adventurous spirit. He found joy in books, travel, and photography, capturing beauty wherever it appeared. Ever curious, he visited all 16 Presidential Libraries, drawn to the stories and history that shaped our nation.
Gerry and his beloved wife, Janice, shared countless journeys and a profound appreciation for God’s creation. They served together as camp hosts at Stony Point in Minnesota and Burney Falls in California, where their humor, partnership, and faith illuminated every season.
Gerry will be remembered for his attentiveness, kindness, quiet wisdom, and gentle humor. He recognized his loved ones by the first “hello” on the phone. He supported his family through every triumph and challenge, encouraging each person to become their best version of themselves. He adored his wife of nearly 66 years with steadfast devotion, offering the next generation the counsel that defined their marriage: listen to one another, and trust — in yourself, in each other, and in the love you build.
He is deeply missed and forever cherished.
