Our beloved Grammy B, caring friend, auntie, and incredible mom, has left us on the evening of June 13th, 2026. Betty Elizabeth Gunderson passed peacefully at 89 years of age.
Born in Bristol, Colorado, Betty was raised on a farm with three siblings for a large part of her childhood. When her father relocated for a security job at the Richmond Bridge, they moved to Oakland. She attended Oakland High and met her then husband, Robert Gunderson. Once married, they ended up at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where their daughter Marie was born. After his service was finished, they moved to and resided in Santa Rosa, California where their son, Robert, was born.
Elizabeth leaves behind her daughter Marie and her husband Tim Leonard, son Robert Gunderson Jr., her granddaughter Alexandria Lyall and grandson John Gunderson. She leaves behind her great grandchildren Mikayla and Tatum Gunderson, JB and KK Gunderson and her step grandchildren, Jessie and Timothy Leonard. Elizabeth reunites and joins hands once again with her other grandson in heaven, Joshua Gunderson.
Elizabeth, known as Betty, will be fondly remembered for her tenacious passion in caring for others. With an 18-year career as a caregiver at Aegis of Napa, she won the #1 Caregiver Award throughout the entire state of California, within all care facilities. She was honored at an award banquet with a plaque and given a paid trip to Disney World with her family.
She was hardworking, always up for adventures, loved to dance, and had a deep connection with the ocean. She was vivacious and had a smile that was brighter than the sun. Nothing meant more to Betty than her family, but her grandchildren were the love of her life.
Elizabeth's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18th at 11:00 AM at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Napa, CA located at 1226 Salvador Ave, Napa, CA 94558.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donating to Oceana: Protecting the World’s Oceans Organization or The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
In gratitude, our family would like to thank the entire office staff, nurses, CNA's, caregivers and activity directors at Piner’s Nursing Home in Napa for their dedication and compassion to their residents. We would also like to thank Providence Hospice of Napa for their continued caring efforts. Our family is eternally grateful to all of you.
Forever in our hearts, Betty “Grammy B” Gunderson.
