age of 69. She is survived by her father Rex Tingle, her brother Preston and her sister
Julie, as well as extended family. Preceding her in death, her mother, Veetrice.
Deborah grew up in Clovis and attended Clovis High School. She loved to travel. Once
while she was traveling in Europe, dad received a Western Union telegraph “Love to
travel. Send money.” We laugh about it still. Deborah was so much more than her
struggles - just ask her pets, of which she had many. She never met a dog she didn’t
like.
In her thirties, Deborah sustained a spinal cord injury. As a paraplegic, she continued to
live independently and embraced challenges and adventures including horseback riding
and skydiving. She had varied careers in accounting and hospitality and as a travel
agent specializing in accessible adventures for other wheelchair users. She retired from
Nevada County Health and Human Services.
She spent most of her adult life in the Sierra Foothill towns that she loved: Folsom,
Nevada City and Grass Valley. She lived in Reno briefly, enjoying the Truckee River
Walk with her beloved Boxer, Sheba.
Deborah loved to devour good books and to watch sci-fi and horror DVDs. She
appreciated good food, lively gatherings and a three-olive vodka martini.
Treatment for metastasizing breast cancer coupled with a heavy blanket of depression
made everyday activities difficult to impossible, but she fought on. She lived out her last
days in her apartment with her cat Marlo, just as she desired.
We’d like to thank the Kaiser Home Health team, especially Michele Perrin, RN, for the
compassionate care they provided. Also, thanks to Herman Barretto for creating and
sustaining visions of what’s possible in both life and death. A memorial gathering of
family and friends will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an animal shelter of your choice, and
may we all reach out to those who are struggling; even though they can’t reach back.
Fly free and run rivers, Deborah. You will live on forever in our hearts.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptune-society.com/locations/fairfield-CA for the Tingle family.
