Thomas Walter Tolley

Tom was well known and respected among local historians and collectors of books and movie memorabilia.

He co-wrote several books on Sacramento history and was one of the chief organizers of the annual Northern

California Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan) conventions.

Tom grew up in the L.A. area in a family of avid readers and movie buffs, which fostered his lifelong love of

books and vintage film. The Tolleys relocated to Fair Oaks when Tom was 14, where he attended Del Campo High

School and met his future wife, Natalie. After attending ARC and mourning the early death of his mother, he and Natalie

began their 55 year marriage, eventually welcoming their baby girl, Marianne, into their lives. Twelve years later, at

Marianne's urging, they adopted the first of four dogs they owned and loved over the years.

In his 20s, Tom worked as a bartender at the Coral Reef Restaurant, then moved on to a career with the Sacramento

Public Library where he landed his dream job in the Sacramento Room of the Central Library.

Tom loved spending vacation time with Natalie on the California coast, especially Pacific Grove. He enjoyed keeping

in touch with old friends and fellow book and movie hobbyists, and played cards and bocce ball weekly with a group

of close pals.

Tom will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and his great sense of humor.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Natalie, his daughter Marianne, grandchildren Joel, Eli, Paul and Sarah,

in-laws Tim, Tami, Julio, Mitch and Shelly, his many dear friends, and his little dog Cody.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
