Pat was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Pascal and Elizabeth Monk on July 21st. She was a graduate of Sacramento High School. Pat went on to College of the Pacific, graduating in 1955, with honors, with a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science with an emphasis in Education. She married Walter E. Ronten (who preceded her in death) in 1956. Pat supported her husband through his career as an Air Force officer for 20 years, including tours of duty in two wars, many moves, raising three children: Tricia, Walter, and Bea. She returned to school attending California State University, Sacramento, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and was accredited by the Royal College of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery department of Sutter Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Here, she found her true calling. She was a valued Instructor at CSUS School of Nursing. After retiring, Pat volunteered at The Casa Restaurant, benefiting the Sacramento Children’s home and First United Methodist Church (FMUC) Sunday Outreach Breakfasts.
Throughout her long life, Pat enjoyed her family, friends, travel, music, her cats and a really, dry martini. Pat was an active member of PEO and devout member of the FUMC of Sacramento.
She passed peacefully, attended by her eldest daughter. She is mourned by her surviving children, daughter-in-law, Caroline, her Monk cousins, many friends, and all who knew her.
A Celebration of Pat’s Wonderful Life will be scheduled sometime this summer.
Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. Pat believed strongly in supporting local Homeless Outreach, Sacramento Children’s Home, Planned Parenthood and Cat Rescues.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to UCD Medical Center and Sutter Medical Center Emergency Department Doctors and especially the Nurses who cared for her final hours.
