Born on March 11, 1937, in London, England, Judi was the beloved daughter of Florence and Fredrick Valleley. Her childhood in wartime England instilled in her a deep resilience and compassion. Judi often delighted those around her with humorous and heartfelt recollections of her early years.
In 1959, Judi married Air Force Commissioned Officer Titus Gene Smith and immigrated to the United States. Together they lived across several states before she ultimately settled in California, where she built a life filled with love and purpose as a devoted single mother to her two children. In 1974 Judi passed the rigorous exams and fulfilling all residency requirements, she proudly took the Oath of Allegiance to become a naturalized United States citizen.
Judi’s talents were as varied as her interests. A gifted pianist who studied at the London College of Music, she later became a self-taught artist. Proficient in German, she traveled extensively throughout Germany during her youth, igniting a passion for exploration that stayed with her throughout her life.
Professionally accomplished, Judi earned her real estate license in 1974 and became a real estate broker in 1982. She pursued higher education at Sacramento City College, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business in 1984 and another
degree in Early Childhood Education at the age of 76. A devout member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, Judi served as a deacon for 35 years, assisted in coordinating the Crop Walk against Hunger, volunteered at Loaves and Fishes, served on the Peace and Justice Committee and taught Sunday school. During her social life she enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing and won several awards.
Judi's life was centered on her deep love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found her greatest happiness when family gathered laughing, sharing stories, and creating memories. Those moments were what she cherished most in life.
Judi's love for her family was quiet but unwavering, and she was always someone her loved ones could count on. From 1977 through 2001, she owned four homes, dedicating much of her spare time to updating their interiors and creating beautiful landscapes around them. She took great pride in her homes and especially enjoyed hosting large family dinners during the holidays, bringing everyone together around the table she loved so much.
Judi is survived by her son Greg Smith; daughter Melanie Smith; daughter-in-law Robin Smith; grandchildren Christopher Ewing, Nathan Smith, Camille Smith, Ryan Smith, and Son-n-law Edgar Tinoco; great-grandchildren Elle Harlan and Lucas Tinoco; and loving brother Robin Valleley.
A Memorial Service celebrating Judi’s life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1300 N Street in Sacramento. Reception to follow at 2:00 pm in the garden patio area.
Judi’s legacy of love, kindness, and determination will continue to inspire all who knew her. May we find solace in the enduring love she shared and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
