She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Jones; daughter Laura Wrasman of Geneva, IL; son Dan (TerrieAnn) Jones of Palatine, IL; and her cherished grandchildren Colin Wrasman, Nathan Jones, Amanda Jones, and Garrett Wrasman. Wanda also leaves behind her younger brother, John (Mary Ellen) Sandeen of Prescott, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Aurora Sandeen, and her brother Art Sandeen and his wife Sue.
Wanda grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois, and went on to attend Augustana College in Rock Island, where she met her future husband, Tom. They married in 1958 and, after graduation, moved to Minnesota where Tom attended university. During this time, Wanda started and ran a speech therapy program in the White Bear Lake public schools. Their first child, Laura, was born in 1962.
After Tom completed his studies, the family moved to New Jersey, where their son Dan was born. In 1969, seeking to be closer to family, they moved to Naperville, Illinois. Wanda dedicated herself to raising her family, supporting them in all their endeavors. She later came back to education as a teacher’s aide, eventually taking on secretarial roles at Steeple Run, Highlands Elementary, and Naperville Central High School. In 1986, Wanda took on the role of secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and the District 203 Board of Education, a position she held until her retirement in 2002.
Beyond her career, Wanda had a variety of passions. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, and volunteering at her church, where she also sang in the choir. Wanda’s kindness and warmth were felt by all who knew her. She always had a friendly word for everyone, brightening the days of those around her with her genuine interest in others. Whether it was a neighbor, a colleague, or a friend, Wanda made everyone feel welcome and valued. Wanda’s love, devotion, and uplifting spirit will leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to leave a lasting tribute, donations may be made to Loaves & Fishes Community Services in her name.
As we celebrate her life, we invite friends and family to reflect on the many moments of joy Wanda has provided each of us. In her honor a Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5 from 2-4 pm with a service immediately following at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Rd, Naperville, IL.
