Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife Olga Golden (nee Grabas), and is survived by his two daughters, Tatianna and Maureen, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Tom graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1968. Tom then honorably served his country in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War era. After that, Tom also had a very long, successful career working as an electrical engineer for the United States Postal Service.
His service in the Navy was an important part of Tom’s life. After retirement he spent many years continuing to serve, by being a very vocal and active member at both the Downers Grove VFW Post 503 and Downers Grove American Legion Post 80. He also was a volunteer at Hines VA and was a participant on one of their safety research panels.
When Tom wasn’t serving others, he could often be found enjoying some of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of old music and movies. Tom also enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and visiting with his neighbors.
Tom will be deeply missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private interment will be held at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Tom at the VFW Post 503, 5101 Belmont Rd., Downers Grove, IL on October 24, 2026 from 3-6:30PM.
