Therese (Terry) Brauer, nee Russo was born June 7th, 1938, and raised in Bellwood, Il., along with her 3 brothers. She attended Proviso Township High school and graduated in 1956. Soon after, she married Donald W. Brauer from Hillside in 1957. They moved to Downers Grove and raised 6 children together. Terry was a loving, dedicated and busy mother, active in the PTA, Girl scout and Boy scout Den Mother and organizer of other school functions. She was also an active community member of the St. Joan of Arc Parish in Lisle. She had a love of travel which she fulfilled through a six-month trek through Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. She also participated in a 26-mile marathon in Alaska for a Breast cancer awareness fundraiser. Later in life she was a bit of a philanthropist, donating to many wonderful charities, but the leukemia foundation was near and dear to her heart. Terry was an avid movie goer and lover of puzzles of all kinds, but jigsaw and crossword puzzles were her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed bowling for many years in a local league. Terry held many different job titles over the years-waitress, receptionist, CNA, but her favorite titles were Mom, Grandma and GG.
Terry is survived by her children, Donald Brauer, Traciann (Mike) Odum, Michael Brauer, Robert (Barb) Brauer; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Evelyn (nee Kare) Russo; daughter, Kathleen Brauer; son, Joseph Brauer; and grandson, Jamie Brauer.
Memorial contributions in Terry’s name can be made to Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Celebration of life to be held at a later date.
