Born with a disability in Yakima, Washington, Ted was blessed to be adopted by a loving, devoted couple, John and Jeanne Beck, who already had 4 children: sisters Eileen Beck and Therese (Matt) Christensen, and brothers John Beck and Phillip Beck. His parents instilled in him an important truth early on: his condition was a circumstance, not a limit. Fueled by his family’s unwavering encouragement, Ted spent his entire life living beyond his disabilities, choosing to meet challenges with a fierce determination and an infectious laugh.
Though he navigated the world in a wheelchair, he did so at full speed. Ted had a passion for sports and was a proud member of the Chicago Wheelchair Bulls, where his competitive spirit, grit, and camaraderie were an asset on the court. Through the “Kid’s Days” sponsored by his team, Ted encouraged many children with disabilities that they, too, could thrive.
His keen mind and passion for technology led him to a distinguished career in public service. Ted began his journey in IT with the Aurora Police Department, where his talent and work ethic quickly became apparent. Through years of dedication and leadership, he rose through the ranks to ultimately become the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the City of Aurora, until his retirement from public service in 2019.
A man of faith, Ted believed in Christian education and generously volunteered his IT skills at Aurora Christian Schools for many years, ensuring that students and teachers had the technological tools to succeed.
Outside of his professional and volunteer life, Ted knew how to find joy in the simple things. He loved quiet, sunrise fishing on open waters (muskies were the ultimate prize), he flew multi-line kites in many local events, and was an enthusiastic competitor at local trivia nights.
Ted is survived by his wife, Cami (House) Beck; his daughter, Joelle Beck; and a community of friends and extended family members who loved him and will miss his exuberant spirit.
Per the family's request, a private family ceremony will be held at a later date. There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ted’s honor to Aurora Christian Schools or Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA).
