Robert James Wood

Born on April 14, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert lived a life defined by service, compassion, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, quick wit, and remarkable ability to make others laugh, even during difficult times. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought immense pride and happiness to his life.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army as an engineer from 1968 to 1971. During his military service, he completed a tour in Vietnam, demonstrating courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to his fellow soldiers and his nation. Following his military service, Robert remained deeply committed to supporting veterans, dedicating himself to improving the well-being and care of those who had honorably served our country. His compassion and advocacy touched the lives of countless veterans and reflected his lifelong belief that no veteran should ever be forgotten.

Above all else, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a loving life with his wife, Mary A. Wood. He was the proud father of Robert Wood Jr. (Noelia), Michelle (Peter) Klimowski, Melissa (Jeff) Butler, Monique (Matthew) Sherry, and Michael Wood.

He was a cherished grandfather to Katelyne, Bailey, Jonathan, Buddy, Kyle, Ava, Leah, Giselle, Mia, Olivia, and Juliana, and a proud great-grandfather to Maeve. Each of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter held a special place in his heart, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert P. Wood and Loretta Wood, and his beloved sister, Barbara Kus.

Robert’s legacy is one of honor, kindness, laughter, and unconditional love. His dedication to his family, his fellow veterans, and his country leaves an enduring example for all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the values he lived by will continue to inspire generations to come.
