Patricia “Patti” Gibbons, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and trailblazing professional, passed away surrounded by family and love. Patti was born in Chicago, IL to Andrew and Therese Nowakowski. She was a fierce, compassionate, and unforgettable woman who left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Patti proudly served as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), where she distinguished herself with integrity, courage, and a deep commitment to justice. After retiring from federal service, she channeled her passion for people into a successful second career as a respected real estate agent with @properties, where she continued to build connections and help others with warmth and tireless dedication.
Patti is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Martin Gibbons; her daughters, Sara (Erik) Vaux, and Allison (Spencer) Salaba; and her cherished granddaughter, Sophie Salaba.
Patti is preceded in death by her mother Therese Nowakowski. Patti leaves behind her father, Andrew Nowakowski; her beloved siblings, Dee Novak, Joe (Magda Vogel) Nowakowski, Nancy (Mark) Sisson, and Sharon Nowakowski; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family members, friends, and colleagues who were lucky to know her.
Patti had a rare gift: she made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. She was a true force of nature—strong, spirited, and fiercely loyal. Whether protecting the public or guiding someone through life’s next chapter, Patti lived to serve and support those around her. Her legacy is one of strength, generosity, and boundless love.
The world feels dimmer without her light, but those who loved her will carry her fire forward.
There will be a memorial service in the Thornhill Education Center at The Morton Arboretum on Tuesday, July 15th from 2-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ATF foundation where all funds go directly to assist ATF families in need. https://www.atfafoundation.org/
