Norma Welda Reimers 1927-2017 (“Omi”) passed away peacefully at age 90 in her home in Elmhurst, IL. on April 30, 2017 due to bladder cancer. She was surrounded by her loving friends and family. Norma comes from a long line of trapeze and aerial performers. She was born on January 15th, 1927 in Singac, New Jersey and from age 6 to 19 lived in Germany with her grandmother and family while her mother was on tour. Norma returned to the United States in 1946 and studied art in Chicago. She became an accomplished artist focusing on fashion sketch design. Art school is also where she met Harvey, who became the love of her life and husband for 67 years until her death. Harvey and Norma were married September 27, 1949 and began their family, raising two daughters in the suburbs of Chicago. Norma and Harvey loved family and the outdoors. Norma was an accomplished archer and loved fencing, camping and being a Girl Scout leader. After her kids were grown she took a job at Elmhurst hospital as a phlebotomist. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Harvey; her two daughters Barbara MacAfee (husband Drew), Susan Lovejoy; four grandchildren Bridgett MacAfee-Frodsham (husband Tom), Kristine Norton (husband Landon), Bennett Lovejoy (wife Sarah), Megan Lovejoy-Deja (husband Danny); six great grandchildren Emelia and Madelyn Frodsham, Taylor and Nicholas Norton, Jack and Piper Lovejoy. A small memorial service will be held for family and friends and scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers and donations, please do something nice for an elderly individual in your life or community.
