Margaret Irene Cannon

Margaret Irene Cannon, of Carp Lake, MI and Spring Hill, FL passed peacefully with her daughter Peg, and granddaughter Alyssa and her fiancé Carlos at her side on Friday, February 24, 2023. She was 100 years young. Her enduring faith and everlasting love for the Lord brought her peace as she entered her forever eternal home in Heaven.

Margaret (Midge) was born October 25, 1922, to John and Hazel Ferentz in Detroit, MI. Midge led an extraordinary life. As a young girl, she endured the Great Depression moving from home to home but said she never once felt deprived. She met “Eddie” Cannon at Cooley High School in Detroit where they soon fell in love realizing they’d met the love of their lives. Following high school, Ed was inducted into the US army and was soon off to war. Being away in basic training, he proposed to Midge by phone while his dad put the ring on her finger. They were married on March 8, 1942, in the midst of a snowstorm although to her, it was the "most beautiful day ever"! A few days later, Ed left for Hershey, PA to await orders to deploy to Europe while Midge traveled by train back and forth to be with him until their final deployment to Europe. Her free time was spent shopping with her mom and fishing with her dad while working as a secretary in the Fisher Building. She wrote a letter every day to her beloved Ed as she awaited his return. Then came the kids…six of them!

Having outgrown their home, she and Ed moved to Southfield, MI where Ed swore, "she found a nice pool that happened to have a house attached."

When the youngest child started school full time, Midge went back to work at Dinser’s Flowers where she loved her work for over 13 years.

Midge enjoyed ceramics, gardening, playing cards, and watching her nephew Kirk coach Iowa Hawkeye football. She also loved traveling with her girlfriends back and forth from Florida to northern Michigan.

Midge’s love for her family exceeded all. She was a wonderful role model and gave unwavering love and support to her kids without judgement. She taught them the true meaning of family love and cherished spending time with her kids, grand kids, great granddaughter, nieces and nephews - and they loved spending time with her.

To know Midge was to love her…she never met anyone who didn’t become her friend or “adopted” family member. She looked for the positive in every situation and loved to laugh and was always making others laugh. She kept her wit and sense of humor through the last hours of her life.

Midge is Survived by her children; Pat (Carol) Cannon, Peg Herlocher , Pam (Michael) Cook, Phil Cannon, Paul (Shirley) Cannon, Penny (John) Kreucher; Grandchildren, Christy (Todd) Wink, Alyssa (Carlos) Herlocher, Tana (Kevin) Putman, Amy (Kyle) Bouchard, Christian Caglione, Sydney (Blake) Drouillard, Kyle Daly, Jack Kreucher; Great-grandchildren; Arya Wink, Bea and Greta Putnam, and Braxton Bouchard; and many loving nieces and nephews and beloved grand dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Cannon, parents, John and Hazel Ferentz and Oscar and Gertrude Cannon, and brother John (Elsie Mae) Ferentz.

A funeral mass will take place at noon on Friday, June 2nd at St. John Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St. Davison, MI. followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon/memorial at St. John Parish Hall. All are welcome.
