Lucille Henry was born in Strong, AR on November 13, 1921. Born 12th of 13 children to Rebecca and Roan Henry, Lucille loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. In 1938, Lucille was wedded to Hosea Jones of Strong, AR. In 1962, Lucille and family relocated to Milwaukee, WI, where she resided for 50 years. In Milwaukee Lucille worked multiple jobs but her primary occupations were licensed cosmetologist and eternal student. She was a faithful member of St. Mark AME Church where she served and sang in the choir for many years. Lucille was a lifelong learner who loved to read. She was committed to academic achievement and persistently worked toward the goal of obtaining her undergraduate degree. Although she could only afford to take a few credits at a time, she never gave up on her dream. After matriculating from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee in 1975 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education degree, Lucille’s passion for elementary education compelled her to create an afterschool/homework help program serving the inner city youth in her community. Retiring in 1991, she continued to be a political advocate and an avid community volunteer. Lucille became afflicted with dementia, and when she was no longer able to manage alone, she was taken into the home of her devoted son. Later, she was moved to a convalescence home in Joliet, IL, to be in close proximity to her daughter’s family, where she was able to attend graduation and birthday parties, and holidays. God blessed Lucille’s children and grandchildren with her loving presence for many wonderful years. Lucille departed this life suddenly on January 19, 2017 at Presence-St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, IL. She now rests in the presence of Jesus; her infirmities ended and eternal joy began. She leaves to cherish her memory, two children: daughter, Rosemary (Trace) Sams; son, Richard Dishroom, Jr. and four grandchildren: Tracey Marcella Sams, Kayla Hamlin, Richard Dishroom III, and Gabriel Joshua Sams. Glory be to God!
