October 12, 1933 – July 8, 2026
With profound love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Lena Spurlin, who peacefully entered eternal rest on July 8, 2026, at the age of 92.
Lena was born on October 12, 1933, in Lexington, MS. She was a woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and boundless love for her family. On September 26, 1953, she married the love of her life, Owen Spurlin Sr. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, building a home rooted in love, faith, and devotion until Owen's passing on October 29, 2019.
Lena dedicated many years of her career as an administrator for a retail company before retiring. She was respected for her professionalism, dependability, and caring spirit, qualities that carried over into every aspect of her life.
A faithful member of Broadview Missionary Baptist Church, Lena found great comfort and joy in her faith and church family. She lived her beliefs through kindness, humility, and a generous heart, always placing the needs of others before her own.
In her retirement, Lena found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading and could often be found enjoying a good book. She was also an enthusiastic fan of television game shows, rarely missing an episode of her favorites. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family, celebrating holidays, sharing stories, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Lena's greatest accomplishment was the family she nurtured with unconditional love. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Rosa Lee Cox (90); and four children: Owen Spurlin (71) and his wife Gina, Linda (Spurlin) Holley (70), Sharon (Spurlin) Hearon (68) and her husband Elbert, and Sandra (Spurlin) Gyenes (67). She also leaves behind her two grandchildren, Gina Spurlin (50) and Nicole Hearon (35), and her beloved great-grandson, Israel Spurlin (16), along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her mother Adlena Reed, her father Sylvester Reed, her brothers, Sonny Reed, James Reed, John Albert Reed; her sisters Rhoda Williams, and Beatrice Goshay in addition to her beloved husband, Owen Spurlin Sr. and her son-in-law David Gyenes, all whose memory she carried with her every day after each of their passing.
Lena will be remembered for her gentle spirit, warm smile, steadfast faith, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Her life was a beautiful example of patience, compassion, perseverance, and grace. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, the extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends who were blessed to know her.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Lena is now reunited with her beloved husband and resting peacefully in the presence of her Lord. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
