Katherena Boulden

Katherena Boulden, “Kathy,” was born March 23, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to proud parents David and Odessa Bunch. She was the second of three daughters of this union. She passed away on September 4, 2026, as she was often seen, with a book in her hand.

Kathy married Charles Boulden III in 1970 and was the mother of three children: Micheal David Boulden, Tammalynn Denise Boulden Young Phillips, and Sanford James Boulden.

For 75 years, Katherena Boulden graced this world. Sometimes her persona showed up as evil, sometimes as gracious. Sometimes she was a trooper and walked 20,000 steps a day; sometimes age and health restricted her to 1,000 steps. Sometimes she read an autobiography, or science fiction, or Stephen King. Sometimes she watched the news or listened to it on the radio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Odessa Bunch; her sisters, Alice Haines and Emma Lee Watson; her son, Micheal Boulden; her granddaughter, Adreanna Haynes; her sister-in-law, Stephanie Boulden; her brothers-in-law, Irvin Watson, Eugene Boulden and Michael Haines; her niece, Genienne Scott; and her nephew, Ronald Watson.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memory her children, Tammalynn Phillips and Sanford Boulden; her grandchildren, Amber Boulden, Andre Young Jr.(Kellie), Earl Lewis, Anastasia Young, Jo’Siah Gamby, Maya Boulden, and Amera Hegarty; her great-grandchildren, Ari Young, Avery Young, Anani Young, and Jo’Siah Gamby II; her brothers-in-law, Albert Boulden, Blair Boulden, and Leslie Boulden; her sisters-in-law, Darralynn Boulden and Erica Reed; her nephews, Q Haines and Alvynn Haines(Nike); her niece, Irvina Muhammed Lawanny (Tundae); and her daughter-in-love Sherry Williams. Kathy had so many cousins that there are simply too many to list. Special mention to her cousin who was like a sister to her, Valerie Williamson.

Services will be private for the family; a champagne sip in her honor will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026. Located at The Juke Joynt, 515 E 47th St, Chicago IL 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
