She was born in Chicago, IL on August 27, 1950 to Charles and Shirley Spread. Karen graduated from Benet Academy in 1968 where she met her husband Thomas J. Zrout and many lifelong friends. After the birth of her second daughter she moved to Downers Grove in 1977 where she proudly spent the entirety of her life in her home on Fairview Avenue. She was the Owner of Renaissance Decorating and was known for her impeccable decorating skills. In addition to her artistic abilities, she also knew the name and artist/band of any classic rock song. This love of great music was fortunately passed on to her daughters who have attended multiple Rolling Stones concerts with her.
She is survived in death by her partner Al Delavega, her daughters Amanda (Mike) Wlodarczyk, Sarah Zrout, and Holly (Jeff) Fox; her grandchildren Julian and Jada Wlodarczyk; and her sisters Gayle (Neal) Spread, Donna VanVossen, and Lisa (Brad) Eismen.
A Celebration of an Amazing Life is being held at Zazzo’s Restaurant in Westmont on Wednesday, April 23 from 4:00-8:27pm. Her family and many friends are welcome to attend and share stories about a beloved woman who will be greatly missed.
