Joseph H. Mack, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle from Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully exactly as he would have scripted it: basking in the company of his loved ones, set to the soundtrack of the Beatles with his beloved Blackhawks playing in the background.
Joe was born in Chicago in 1951 to Rose and Herb Mack. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from DePaul University before becoming an accountant and working hard to support his family.
He was also a die-hard fan of his hometown Chicago teams. Whether cheering them on during a championship run or sticking by them through rebuilding years, his loyalty never wavered. He always looked forward to enjoying a game with family and friends. Joe loved live concerts and was such an ultimate Beatles fan that he once took a spontaneous trip and camped out on the streets of New York City to meet Paul McCartney.
Beyond his dedication to his loved ones, Joe showed extraordinary resilience. Over the years, he survived two heart attacks and cancer, and he lived courageously with primary progressive aphasia for 10 years. Joe never lost his gentle heart or his positivity and adaptability. He faced adversity with a quiet, unwavering strength that will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Bonny; his children, Amy (Matt) Simpson and Eric; his grandchildren, Matthew, Alyssa and Caleb; his siblings John Hertel and Rosemary (late Charles) Fuller; godchildren, Nikki Faber, Steven Bukauskas and Mark Hertel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Herbert Mack and his daughter Elizabeth.
Friends and family are asked to meet at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave, Shorewood, IL, at 10:00 am on Monday, October 12, 2026. Please wear attire from Chicago sports teams or the Beatles. Cremation private. Donations in his name may be made to The National Aphasia Association.
