John S. Tolar, 64, of Joliet, passed away suddenly in his home on Sunday June 18 2017. He is survived by his mother Flora Tolar; sisters Ann Leonard (Eddie) and Ramona Piske (Robert) as well as niece Rachel Gunther; nephews David Piske, Gregory Piske and Brandon Piske; great nephew Raziel Gunther and longtime friend Carl Marshall. Mr. Tolar was preceded in death by his father Albert W. Tolar and his younger sister Joy D. Tolar. John retired in 2015 after 30-plus years in the Joliet school system as a special education teacher and later as an instructor at the juvenile detention center. John was a 1970 graduate of Lakeview High School in Chicago. In addition, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech and two master’s degrees in education. John enjoyed all types of music, especially opera and classical; archeology, geology, guns, balloons, magic, anything with science and most recently zombies. He loved the countryside of the South. John loved spending time with his family and took great joy in pranking them. He was witty and had a strange sense of humor and all who knew him had a friend for life. A celebration of John’s life is set for Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the Brac Community Room at the Bolingbrook Park District Recreation Complex at 200 South Lindsey Lane.
