John David Schuman, aged 82 years, passed away quickly and peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with his family at his side. He was a 38-year resident of Bolingbrook, IL, and formerly resided in Springfield, IL; Mt. Prospect, IL; Charlottesville, VA; Glendale Heights, IL and Chicago, IL.
John (aka “Jay” and “Wally”) is survived by his wife, Wendy (Collingwood) Schuman; children, Debbie (Alan) Shumaker, Jeff (Teri) Schuman, Kathy Spillane; Justin (Ashley) Schuman and Cara (Michael) Coleman; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Dominick) Kortokrax, Joshua (Jenna) Shumaker, Jeffery (Brigette) Schuman, Jason (Bridget) Schuman, Isabelle Spillane and Madeline Schuman; and twelve great-grandchildren; also, his siblings, Robert (Susan) Schuman and Donna (Larry) Julian; father-in-law, Larry Collingwood, and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Schuman and Margaret Elsie (Haimann) Sawadski; his son, John David Schuman, Jr.; his son-in-law, Patrick Spillane and his BT Fishing Buds, John Maxedon and Rich Minster.
Spiritually connected to God, John loved his family and strived to always do the right thing, living by the motto “WWJD”. He had a charismatic personality with a keen sense of humor; he had the ability to laugh at himself and possessed a natural ability to bring people together. His hobbies included fishing, painting, drawing, woodworking, trying new musical instruments, an appreciation for “pretty words”, and a curiosity of all things super-natural. John was an animal lover of all kinds, having owned many dogs, cats and fish; and he spent countless hours outdoors capturing wildlife photos as he marveled at the world around him, observing birds, small animals and the changing seasons from his deck and front porch. John enjoyed a successful and dedicated 50-year career in IT, mainly in the medical and laboratory fields, from which he maintained many friendships over the years.
A Celebration of Life event will be scheduled for later this Spring. Please check back, as details will be shared at a future date.
