Janet Lorraine Zaleski, a long-time resident of Chicago, was born on June 20, 1954, to Susanne and Mitch Zaleski. She grew up in Northbrook, Illinois on Happ Road and attended Sunset Ridge School in Northfield. She went on to attend New Trier High School West in Northfield where she played flute and French horn in the orchestra. Additionally, she was active in the GAA, Girls Athletic Association.
College would take her to Drake University where she received her BFA and became active in Chi Omega Sorority where she maintained lifelong relationships. She worked corporately as a graphic designer and later as a photographer’s and apparel representative, antique dealer, and prop and wardrobe stylist. She was well known amongst friends for her superb style and extraordinary creativity. She was a true friend to many in her life.
She is survived by her long-time partner, Tom Ohl, brothers Steven (Jane) and Paul (Linda), nieces, nephew, and their children. Her parents, Mitchell and Susanne (nee Meinert) preceded her in death. She was close to her late cousin Steve Novak and his wife Cindy. As a pet lover, she leaves behind her Miniature Schnauzer Molly.
Janet passed away unexpectedly in her home on June 9, 2024. She will be forever missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Northfield IL on Sunday July 21, 2024, at 2pm.
