Jim was raised in Oak Park Illinois and lived previously in Northbrook and Barrington. He enlisted in the US Army during the Vietnam era and was sent to Belgium where he worked with NATO. He worked in civil service for his work career and was employed at Glenview Naval Air Station and Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He was active in American Legion for over 30 years and held various leadership positions. He sang in church choirs and served in ministry. His life was centered on his faith in God, his family and service.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary (nee Grandy) Tyner; and children, Daniel and Elizabeth.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., Village Church of Barrington, 1600 E Main St, Barrington, IL 60010.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to Compassion International.
