James Joseph Smith

James J. Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully October 22, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife Mary née Tumenas; loving daughters: Genevieve (James) Faherty, Anne Smith and Susan (Phillip) Palczynski; and grandchildren: Julia, Colleen, Kevin and Kate. Beloved son of the late James and Genevieve Smith, beloved brother of the late Genevieve (Michael) McIntosh, Elizabeth (William) Green and Marian Smith. A graduate of the University of Illinois, School of Architecture, Jim was in business for over 50 years - Smith Stephens Architects, Inc., Oakbrook Terrace. He created award-winning designs throughout the western suburbs and Chicago, IL. An avid tennis player and bicyclist, he enjoyed many physical activities including his regular visits to East Bank Club. He was respected by all and we will miss his mild manner, great intellect, and wonderfully dry sense of humor. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at Ascension of Our Lord Church, 1S314 Summit Avenue, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Entombment private.
