George Andrew Graske of New Lenox, IL, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025. Loving husband of 62 years to the late Judith (Simunic); beloved father of Karyn (Tom) Ahern; proud grandfather to Brendan and Caroline; also survived by his sister, Joan Chacon and brother, Kenneth Graske; uncle to many nieces and nephews.
George was a graduate of Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago. After graduating he worked at US Steel. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as a mechanist in Philadelphia. Upon discharge he joined the Chicago Police force. His love to fix things brought him to owning a full-service Amoco gas station and Interstate Transmission in South Holland.
George was an active member in St. Jude senior social, Knights of Columbus, Frankfort car club and the American Legion Post 1977. Throughout his life he was involved in the South Holland Jaycees, New Horizon ski club, Northwest Indiana early Ford club, softball leagues and volleyball leagues. He was an avid Badgers, Bears, Hawks & Sox fan. He loved participating in many sports, playing basketball and softball, golf, sailing, snow skiing, swimming and tennis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of the mass at 11:00 am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 W. Second Street, New Lenox, IL 60451. Immediately following internment for George and Judith at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thomas E. Hartung American Legion Post 1977 14414 W. Ford Dr New Lenox, IL 60451 in George's name.
