Frank Alberico left this world on the morning of August 14, 2023, after a year-long battle with stomach cancer. He passed away sleeping peacefully at home in Lockport with his family present. Born on July 29, 1940, Frank grew up an only child in Crest Hill across the river from Lockport where he was to spend his life. He helped his father (Sam Alberico) build their small house on Center Street near Chaney Pool. He attended Lockport Township High School and was active in the band and swimming. It was there he met his future wife -Georgia Nordstrom. After high school, Frank enlisted in the Navy and enjoyed working as a sonar technician on helicopters and aircraft carriers across the globe.
Upon leaving the Navy, Frank became a police officer in Crest Hill and married Georgia. The Nordstrom family welcomed him as one of their own.
Frank’s love of law enforcement drove the newly married couple to Missouri to attend Central Missouri State, where he received degrees in law enforcement and sociology. Joliet Junior College hired Frank to start a program to train police officers in 1969. Through his 38 years of teaching law enforcement, Frank impacted the lives of thousands of students and police officers throughout the state.
That career brought awards for his excellence in teaching and enabled him to work with law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and national levels to improve the quality and compassion of our police force.
One of Frank’s other passions was working with the Exchange Club, and specifically to help bring focus and energy to the prevention of child abuse. His hard work and dedication enabled him to start up Exchange clubs across Illinois, and he held offices with that organization at the local, state, and national level. He was also an active member and leader at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church for decades.
Frank ALWAYS put family first and actively supported his children’s activities.
His hobbies involved traveling with his family, fishing, and reading. And he LOVED the Chicago Bears!
Frank would want to be remembered for his love of family, his demand for truth and morality, his hard work ethic, and love for his community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Georgia Alberico.
His children - Andrew (Stacy) Alberico who reside in Charleston, SC, and Kristin (Brian) Feely of Plainfield, IL. Frank also has three grandchildren – Max, Parker, and Zoe who brought him immense pride and joy these last 15 years of his life.
The family would wish any donations be made to the National Exchange Club Foundation -
