She was born on June 18, 1951 in Champaign, IL to Johnny and Elsie Hodges (née Wilson), who preceded her in death. She was a beloved mother to her son, Beau (Chrissy) Kyburz, and a cherished grandmother aka “Naties” to his daughter Isla. She is also survived by her younger sister Rebecca David, big brother Steve Hodges, Becky’s four children Thomas, Elijah (Cady & Esmé), Rachel & Stephen, Steve’s daughter Kristi, and countless friends who were fortunate to have known her.
In her career as an administrative assistant and salesperson, Deb made a mark at companies such as ComEd, Exxon Mobil, and Marshall Fields. But it was her personal life, filled with laughter, joy, and boundless love, that truly defined her. Deb had a spirit that shone bright — she was always on the go! She enjoyed lunches with friends, dancing to Motown, and shopping till she dropped.
Deb had a natural talent for making any house feel like a home — whether she was decorating her own home or finding the perfect something at Home Goods for those she loved. She could often be found curled up in her sunroom with a Danielle Steel novel, losing herself in the world of romance and adventure, or enjoying a cozy evening binge-watching Hallmark movies.
Her greatest joys were spent in the company of those she loved. She treasured her outings with her close-knit group of friends throughout her life and found special delight in sunny days at the pool with Isla, where the two shared laughter and memories that will last a lifetime.
Deb’s memory will live on through her family and the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness, laughter, and genuine warmth. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private gathering for friends and family will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lightways Hospice in Joliet, whose compassionate care brought her peace in her final days.
