David Taylor passed into eternal life at his home in Clarendon Hills on February 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Mount Union, Pennsylvania and later moved to Newton Hamilton, where he spent his days playing with his many siblings along the banks of the mighty Juniata River. After a few years in Newton Hamilton, his family moved to the Pittsburgh area, where David graduated from Oakmont High School. He then attended Lycoming College and Slippery Rock University, where he played football and earned a degree in mathematics. He then pursued his masters degree at Indiana University and continued his post-graduate education at Loyola University.
David began his long career in education teaching mathematics and coaching high school football. He went on to become a dean at the Community College of Allegheny County, and eventually moved his young family to Hinsdale after he was appointed a vice president at Bogan Community College. After working at Bogan, David began his long career as a professor at Moraine Valley Community College, where he served as the department chair of counseling and taught psychology and mathematics. During his 45+ years at the college, David’s passion and dedication for helping young people changed innumerable lives, and his empathy and wisdom guided his students and colleagues alike.
In his spare time, David enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, rooting for Pittsburgh sports teams, riding his motorcycle, and spending time on Eagle Lake – his own private paradise in Indiana. He was a lover of good food, a good martini, and his all-time favorite, butter pecan ice cream.
David’s favorite activities involved his family. For many years, David could be found coaching his children’s sports' teams: floor hockey, soccer, and, of course, little league. He was also a great story teller, keeping everyone entertained with the tallest of tales and his off-beat humor. David was able to turn the most ordinary of moments into extraordinary events.
David approached his death the way he lived his life – with strength, dignity, and an indomitable spirit: one that will forever inspire those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend James C. Taylor and Miriam Madden Taylor; his beloved daughter, Robin; and brothers, James “Preach,” Robert, and the Reverend Hugh (Donna) Taylor.
David is survived by his children: David (Jennifer), Scott (Amanda), Alexander (Julia), Zachary (Celina), and Catherine; his grandchildren, Anders, Aiden and Kristen; his siblings, Bruce (Andralynn), Jay “Rocky” (Dottie), Miriam (Doug) Brannock, Sara (Rick) Gildersleeve and Roberta Taylor; and his loyal, canine protector, Red. He also leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Floralee Adducci.
A Celebration of David's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Union Church, 137 S. Garfield St., Hinsdale, IL. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to Za Za’s, 441 E Ogden Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL for lunch and to continue the celebration of David’s life.
