Carol loved nature, animals, and any water activity: especially sailing. Any kind of sweet was definitely a treat. She proudly shared her adventures of her youth as a tomboy where she bested the boys in many types of sports. Carol always loved horses which took her to working at the stables as a teenager. In 1961, she passed up a scholarship for the Art Institute to marry her husband Bob. Their life on the horse farm in Wilmington, IL. was always full of adventures and excitement. A milk cow named Beauregard, a fox, goats, mules, chickens, ferrets, and dingo dogs were just a few of the many animals they had at various times. And lots of horses. On one particular day, they purchased 60 horses which all had to be rode by the end the day. Bob and Carol were the first to raise Blue Heeler Australian Cattle Dogs in the area. They were also proud of their twice State of Illinois Champion paint horse Skip-A-King. Our Mom enjoyed playing cards, especially gin-rummy with her children and euchre with everyone.
After raising her children, Carol reentered the workforce as an employee of the State of Illinois. While there, she was able to take up bowling as a favorite hobby. She very much enjoyed the 21 years she worked at the Department of Emergency Management Services. Her children are very proud of her accomplishment of retiring at the age of 70. And as her family knows, she was a hard worker and a super organizer who wrote meticulous notes on any paperwork which came her way.
Per her wishes, cremation service and arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Neptune of Downers Grove. A celebration of life is being planned for the summer of 2024. Bye for now.
