Bonnie Lou Donovan, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. Born on June 18, 1935, in Freeport, Illinois, to Roy and Helen (Faber) Bechtold. Bonnie grew up in Dixon, Illinois, graduated from Dixon High School, and studied at Rockford School of Business. She spent all her working career, over 40 years, as an executive assistant at Ingersoll Milling Machine Co. A co-worker shared, “if you wanted something done, you went to see Bonnie.”
Bonnie became a Master Gardener through the University of Illinois Extension office. She maintained that designation for many years volunteering her horticultural skills and knowledge in the Rockford area.
Bonnie was a vivacious, outgoing individual who enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved good music, dancing, traveling, gardening, entertaining friends, and spending time on the Rock River. Her favorite place was in her home of over 50 years, in the “river room," enjoying the river views, her beautiful gardens, and all the various birds she fed. She also adored her many dachshunds. It’s hard to remember a time when she didn’t have one or two dogs by her side.
Bonnie was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Janet Vaage Pellmann; and the love of her life, Denny. She is survived by her brother, Ron (Nora) Bechtold.
The family is grateful to her dear friend and helper of the past few years, Lori Viederis. Pursuant to Bonnie’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service, and her ashes will be laid to rest alongside her parents. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to your local humane society or cancer society.
