Born on August 9, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, Beth was the daughter of Arthur and Josephine Engert. She was a triplet, alongside her sisters Barbara and Bobbette. Tragically, Bobbette passed away just days after birth. Beth grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1945. She went on to attend the University of Illinois at Navy Pier before completing her bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
After college, Beth worked at Swift Premium in Chicago before marrying Howard Bruning in 1960. Beth and Howard made their home in Wheaton, Illinois where they raised two daughters, Cindy and Kathy. Beth took time off from her career to devote herself to her family. She was active in PTA and was an assistant Girl Scout leader. Once the girls were older, Beth resumed work as a healthcare analyst at Herman Smith Associates.
Beth had a deep passion for gardening and found joy in nurturing plants and flowers. She also loved bike riding, cross-country skiing, traveling, knitting, arts and crafts, watching football, reading and playing bridge. Her adventurous and creative spirit inspired those around her.
Beth is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Howard Bruning; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Steve Harkins, and Kathy and Greg Best; and her granddaughters, Allie Harkins, Lianne Harkins, and Ariel Best.
A celebration of Beth's life will be held in the atrium of the Terra Bella Senior Community, located at 11 E. Augusta Place, Greenville, SC, on Monday, April 28 at 6 PM. Refreshments will be served as family and friends gather to honor her memory.
Beth's family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support shown during this time. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.
