Arthur Russell Strobeck Jr.

Arthur Russell Strobeck Jr., age 77, of Tinley Park, Illinois passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur Strobeck, Sr and Olga nee Nilson and grew up in Evanston, Illinois where he attended Evanston Township High School and ran track. He graduated in 1963 and attended Kendal Junior College before moving onto Carthage College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in History, Cum Laude in 1967. He then studied for his Masters in Latin American History and graduated from Northern Illinois University.

Art worked for the State of Illinois Employment Service and was one of the organizers of a strike and when he was fired, he went all the way to the Illinois Court of Appeals and lost by one vote. He worked for Chicago Commons as a Community Organizer and also for the American College of Healthcare Executives as a Research Associate. He went on to more studies and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Masters in Urban Health Planning and Policy then worked with a Human Rights Delegation to Guatemala. He also worked for the Cook County Adult Probation Department as a Probation Officer and was on the negotiating committee for union AFSCME Council 31. He retired and then worked for the City Colleges of Chicago at Malcolm X College as an English tutor. Finally retiring in 2021 he moved to Tinley Park with his wife Eva (who he married in 1992) and died in Lemont Nursing and Rehab on May 6, 2023 of Parkinson’s.

A Memorial and Celebration of Art's Life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 beginning with a reception at 1:30 pm followed by a Service at 2:00 pm at United Church of Rogers Park, 1545 W. Morse Ave., Chicago, IL 60626 (handicap accessible and street parking)

Funds raised will be split with the united Church of Rogers Park Church or Felines and Canines Animal Shelter (where we got our last senior dog Maxine who passed).
