Alexis Marie Freer of Frankfort in Illinois passed away on June 14 at the age of 40. She was born on May 24, 1984, in Joliet, and grew up in New Lenox and Manhattan. She graduated from Kankakee Community College in 2008 and worked as a Radiological Technologist.
Alexis was the only daughter and survived by her loving parents, Jon and Vicky (Anderson) Cheney, her adoring brothers Aaron Cheney, Adam (Amber) Cheney and Austin (Ellen) Cheney, her niece, Elayna Cheney and nephews, Seth and Riley Cheney, her grandma, Mary Anderson, and her devoted husband, Duncan and their 2 wonderful children, Lilah (11) and Callum (8).
Alexis met Duncan in Cancun in Mexico in December 2008 and it was love at first sight. They lived together in Manchester, England from September 2009 and married in Lemont on June 17, 2011. Their beautiful daughter, Lilah, was born in Manchester in November 2012. The family then returned to live in Frankfort in June 2015. Their soccer-loving son, Callum, was born soon after in October 2015.
The family would like to thank Marlana Orloff and her wonderful team at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for the care and compassion they showed Alexis since her diagnosis with Ocular Melanoma in January 2020.
Alexis was the most beautiful, inspirational, and fun-loving person that anyone could have the pleasure of meeting. Everyone was captivated by her grace, kindness, sense of humor, and infectious laugh. From the date of her diagnosis, she did not take one backward step. She tried everything to stop the disease in its tracks and managed to exceed all expectations by recently celebrating her 40th birthday with family and friends.
Visitation will commence at 3pm with a service scheduled for 4pm on Friday June 28, at St Paul’s United Church Of Christ at 140 Thelma Street, Manhattan, followed by a reception at Fritz’s at 225 S State Street, Manhattan.
Though our hearts are broken during this very sad time, we will ensure that her legacy of positivity and enduring love lives on through her children, and their children, and beyond. We love you to the moon, and back.
