Roger was born on Aug 10,1946 to Delbert and Katherine (Ellis) Thomas in West Point, Mississippi. Following his high school graduation and one year at Mississippi State University he joined the Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict. Soon thereafter, he married Marlene (Shea) Thomas and raised two sons, Jeff Thomas of Priceville, Al and Kevin L. Thomas of Daphne, Al.
Roger spent more than 30 years as an over-the-road driver with Overnite Transportation and UPS Freight, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family.
While there, he received numerous safety rewards, but his favorite was his certificate for driving 3 million miles without an accident. Roger lived most of his life in Colorado, a place he deeply loved. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially boating, fishing and skiing. He is remembered by many for his patience and kindness teaching them to water ski. Roger will be remembered for his infectious laugh and his ability to always have a good time.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his two sons, four grandchildren (Kate, Carly, Carson, and Claire), and his soon to be great granddaughter Lottie. Also, his two brothers, Dennis (Diane) Thomas of Mooresville, NC and Merrill (Regina) Thomas of Scotland.
A memorial service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held in the summer of 2026. Details will be shared at a later date.
