Randy was born in High Point, NC in 1955 to Donald and Jeanne Hendrix. Randy with his parents and two siblings, Holly and Rick, lived in North Carolina until he was the age of 7 when they moved to Brimfield, Ohio. Randy was only in the 2nd grade when he met Tommy Watson his lifelong best friend, brother, and partner in crime of all things juvenile mischief and fun. He graduated from Field High School where he played football as an offensive tackle for the Field Falcons. During his senior football banquet, Randy’s coach would recognize him in front of all in the room for his dedication to attendance of all practices and games and his bright, positive attitude towards the sport and his team. Upon graduation, Randy’s family moved to Pensacola, FL where he would marry his children’s mother, Pat. Soon after marriage he would become a father to his son Randy II and daughter Amber, both of whom he deeply loved and had great pride in. Randy’s son would remain his constant other half and homie throughout his lifetime as the two were rarely separated throughout the years and his son would become his caregiver when Randy Sr. became disabled at a younger age. Randy’s daughter would be a topic of pride he would share with anyone who would listen and would always remain her biggest cheerleader. Randy graduated with his Associate’s degree in Hospitality Management along side his mother Jeanne from Pensacola Community College. Throughout his life, he would live in many states and work in many professions with hospitality management being his longest career. Randy remained a rabid football fan from the time of his youth with his favorite college teams being LSU and anyone playing against Florida State. As for pro football, he loved to root for the Tampa Bay Bucs and Denver Broncos. He was a coffee fanatic and often spoke to his children and others about dreams of opening his own coffee shop or coffee truck and spending his days chatting with others as they go about their day-to-day lives. Randy was a big movie buff and had an impressive ability to remember actors, producers, directors, screenwriters, and soundtracks of his favorite movies. If there was ever a trivia game around movies, everyone was quick to want Randy on their team. He was a big time YouTube junkie. He would watch hours of videos on grilling, smoking meats, and Spyders all while dreaming of having his own and hitting the open roads. Through Randy’s many hours of chatting on YouTube he made some special friendships with Jody “Purple”, Tommy G, Billy, and Rhonda, as well as many others. Those hours spent chatting with others on YouTube gave Randy the space and opportunity to socialize and let his personality shine with his quick wit, ridiculously bad Dad jokes, and endless memes. One couldn’t even begin to count the number of times you would hear him asking “so have you heard any good jokes lately?” before he would then go into a round of new jokes he couldn’t wait to share. Randy’s life encompassed one of great love to those he called family and friends and a jovial personality that even during his hardest of days he would look at opportunities to have a laugh or crack a joke with someone. Randy’s family and friends will greatly miss his love and playful approach to life.
Randy is preceded in death by his father, Don “Pop” Hendrix and his mother Jeanne Hendrix. Randy leaves behind his two children, Randy Hendrix II and Amber Hendrix (Mike Lizama), his sister Holly (Rob) Fridenstine and two brothers Tommy (Robin) Watson and Rick Hendrix, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
To honor Randy, a non-traditionalist and one to not care for anything formal, a funeral and viewing will not be held. Randy’s children have chosen to honor their Dad in a private memorial service to be announced at a later time.
