Nicki Elizabeth Patterson was married to her deeply beloved husband Daniel Lee McCleave for 49 years. Born on October 29, 1953 in Mobile to Marjorie Comeau and Sydney Patterson, Nicki remained a Patterson after marriage, participating with Dan in the fight to allow women to keep their maiden name in the State of Alabama. When Nicki and Dan met each other in law school, they fell head over heels in love – Nicki chose Dan, a decision that led to a lifelong partnership.
In 1978, Nicki gave birth to her first son, James Wesley, who now serves as an officer in the United States Army in Minnesota. Four years later, Nicki brought Sydney Gabriel into the world, delivered in the Old Shell Road home, raising him to be an electrical engineer in Ohio. In 1986, Nicki had the baby son, Albert Druhan, now a middle school math teacher in Mobile. In the 21st century, the Patterson-McCleave clan reunited with the fourth son, Dave Walter. Nicki was also cherished by her God-children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and her granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth.
Nicki was a lover, a mother, a fighter, a prosecutor, a Judge (City of Prichard), a church elder, and an endeared friend to many. As the Chief Assistant District Attorney for Mobile County, Nicki Patterson was responsible for more than 40,000 felony convictions. More important to Nicki were the diversion programs and child shelters that evolved to impact national justice structures. “We strive for excellence as we know Nicki would be proud of the hard work,” commented a beloved friend. Nicki’s impact extended beyond the states, as she and her soulmate Dan traveled the world, making dear friends everywhere along the way.
